TRAIL RIDGE ROAD - Colorado

Road Opened: 1932

Also Known As: US 34

Max Elevation: 12,210 feet (3,722 m)

Road Length: 48 Miles (77 km)

Claim to Fame: Highest Continuously Paved Road in USA

Best Time to Konkr: June to September

Afraid of heights?  Then the Trail Ridge Road is not for you.  In for a challenge and quite possibly the greatest road in America?  Saddle up!  This road boasts intense elevation through the Rocky Mountain National Park, and thus boasts amazing, unimpeded, views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.  The road has multiple switchbacks, tight bends, and curves that'll keep you on your toes.  Pavement quality is very good considering the amount of snow it sees yearly, and the lanes are wide an forgiving.  Be prepared to pay a National Park entrance fee to enter, as well as for a few meals at the handful of pit-stops to refuel your stomach and to let your hands stop shaking a bit.  Be sure to plan your adventure in the summer, as this road is closed in winter.  The nearest cities are Boulder, a unique town with incredible food and bustling culture, as well as the robust city of Denver where everything seems to be owned by John Elway.  Overall, a road trip in the US is incomplete without conquering the Trail Ridge Road...just be sure to keep your focus and breath well while you're on it!

Going To The Sun Road - Montana

Claim to Fame: Shown in opening credits of "The Shining"

Location: Glacier National Park

Best Time to Konkr: July to September

The Going-to-the-Sun road is the only road that traverses Montana's Glacier National Park, and  it competes with the greatest roads on Earth with its incredible scenery, twists and turns, and the excitement from the relatively thin road with vast drop-offs.  Be sure to hit this road early in the morning or at dusk; the traffic gets intense at mid-day.
