NORTH AMERICA'S BEST MOTORCYCLE, DRIVING, & CYCLING ROADS

MILLION DOLLAR Highway - Colorado

Road Opened: 1924

Max Elevation: 11,018 feet

Road Length: 25 Miles (40 km)

Claim to Fame: Uncompahgre Gorge Section (No Guardrails)

Formal Name: US Route 550

Best Time to Konkr: May to September

Not just a road; it's a true adventure!  Challenge your wits on the gorgeous, but nerve-wracking, Uncompahgre Gorge  and then climb to the top of the roads Red Mountain Pass.  If you're into scenery, this is the road for you.  Road quality is better than most mountain passes and this one is plowed in the winter...conquer it in the powder if you dare.

RUSSELL HIGHWAY - GEORGIA

Road Opened: 1966 (fully paved)

Also Known As: Richard B. Russell Scenic Byway ; SR 348

Road Length: 14 Miles (22.5 km)

Claim to Fame: Great Waterfalls Nearby

Best Time to Konkr: All Year - Watch for Snow and Rain

The Richard B. Russell highway is the greatest riding and driving road in Georgia, and one of the best in the US' South East.  The road quality is above par, the lanes are wide, and the twists and turn (especially early on when coming from the south) are premier.  The Raven Cliff and Dukes Creek Falls trails are just off the road, and boast excellent water falls, especially in the spring.  The drawbacks of this road is what plagues most roads in the Eastern US -- trees.  The trees block the scenery, and frankly getting to the road is a bit out of the way from a large city like Atlanta.  Don't let this fret you too much.  The Russell Highway is still well worth the trip, and traffic levels are relatively good to allow a fantastic morning run on this road.

LOLO PASS - IDAHO

Road Opened: 1962 (fully paved)

Also Known As: Nez Perce Trail ; US12

Road Length: 133 Miles (214 km)

Elevation: 5,233 Feet (1,595 m)

Claim to Fame: Used by Lewis and Clark

Best Time to Konkr: June to October

The Lolo Pass is a marathon for those who seek to conquer it.  133 miles ranging from South Montana through the depths of Idaho will challenge all.  Scare tactics aside, this road is a worthy being on our best roads list due to its good pavement, wide lanes, amazing natural scenery, and an abundance of twists and turns.  Without a doubt, the Lolo makes for an epic day trip or a longer stay with the family if you are in to hunting, fishing, hiking, and the lot.
